Yeung Shu Nga, Emma
Emma YEUNG is interested in capturing the essence of sceneries and objects through a deliberate sense of blurriness. She is deeply fascinated in penetrating the suppressed emotion into images, translating her close observation between colours and atmosphere into creations. By enlarging and focusing on the details of her subjects—and treating the photograph as an object in its own right— she believes it will add another layer that creates a sense of distance to allow the viewer to engage more deeply. And distance creates an opportunity to let the viewers building a relationship with it.
In recent years, Emma has expanded her practice to include painting, sculpture, and moving images. She enjoys the distinct materiality and especially the malleability each medium provides. She does not just treat the mediums merely as tools to convey her ideas, but as integral elements deeply intertwined with the concepts she explores.
